Setting Up FireWire Controllers

Digidesign 003

The Digidesign 003 uses a FireWire cable to connect to the computer. A compatible 003 driver must be installed.

V-Control Pro Does Not Provide FireWire Drivers

You must install a 003 FireWire driver that allows the Mac or Windows computer to provide audio I/O and MIDI I/O. Last time we looked, Avid's drivers do not work well with modern computers, especially Mac systems.

FireWire Surface Setup

  • Connect the surface to the computer with a FireWire cable.
  • Install the FireWire driver provided by Avid
  • Open the V-Control Pro Setups window.
  • Click on + Add New text button in the Controllers section. This will display a popup menu with several choices.
  • Select the name of the FireWire controller you are using to add it to your setups.
  • Now your surface should be shown in the Controllers section of Setups.
  • Set the MIDI ports for the surface.
    • Click on the surface in the Controllers section of Setups.
    • Check the MIDI input and output ports.
      • The ports might have been automatically set. Conform they are correct or not.
      • If not correct, Select the MIDI input and output ports for it to use.
